Chabad readings of the six directions — north, south, east, west, above, below — as the geometry of the created world.
One hundred and eight is six times chai. In Jewish gifting, the multiples of eighteen ascend: 18, 36, 54, 72, 90, 108. At 108 the figure takes on a structural character, because six is itself the number of the directions of the created world — north, south, east, west, above, below — and the count of the orders of the Mishnah.
Bottle No. 108 of the Bereshit Series is positioned for the patron who reads numbers structurally. The Hebrew document accompanying it places the numeral within the Chabad register in which the six directions are read as the geometry of the world below.
It is a numeral often chosen for institutional dedication — a synagogue’s anniversary, a school’s founding, a benefactor’s yahrzeit gift to the next generation.
